Hello once again!
We have put your shirts and luggage ribbons in the mail today. Please be aware that the sizes may run a bit small. Please try your shirt on, and if it is seriously too small, please let us know. We have ordered some surplus shirts in larger sizes. If you are in an area where there is a group of you coming, please check first if you can exchange shirts to get a better fit. Otherwise, please email us and let us know. We won’t receive the extra shirts until around the 15th, so time will be short to be able to get new ones to you. After emailing us, we will give you instructions on how to return shirts that don't fit. We won’t have the capacity to carry all of the extras with us without the likelihood of having to pay customs/duty on them.
There are other questions coming up, and we want everyone to feel comfortable about their trip to Paris, so if you have any questions, please ask and we will try to answer.
DAY OFF
We would like everyone to plan a day off during their time with us. We would like to know at least a day ahead what day you would like to take off. Your day off can include your attendance at an event, sightseeing, just relaxing. One of our single gals has asked about being able to join up with others to go up the Eiffel Tower. We strongly encourage you not to be traveling/going out alone, so if there’s anyone who would like to make this an excursion, let us know and we’ll put you in touch with each other. Tickets may need to be purchased in advance.
POWER
The current in France will be the European system. The 2 small round (rather than 2 flat) is the common plug type. Like the USA, some plugs have a third that is the ground, but it is not essential.
You’ll need to have an adapter for your phone to plug into this.
CREDIT CARDS VS CASH
Visa will be one of the sponsors at the Olympics, so that would be the credit/debit card of choice. If you don’t choose to use a bank card, you can probably get money exchanged to Euros before you come or during the day when you are out and about. It’s usually most expensive at the airport. We have no way to tell you how much to bring because that is an individual choice. It will depend on a number of factors: how much do you want to spend on an extra event; how much shopping or sightseeing do you want to do; how many souvenirs do you want to buy; how much extra/different foods do you want to buy. Remember, you will be supplied with three meals a day, but you may want to try different foods when you’re out. You will be supplied with train passes for your transportation during your stay. Other than your own personal expenses, you shouldn’t need anything more.
PERSONAL COOLING DEVICES
The accommodation does not have air conditioning. One of our participants has suggested bringing a small battery-operated fan–YES! If you have room in your luggage for personal fans, great! It may be that we’ll make a trip to the store when we arrive early and pick up a fan or two, and then leave them behind.
